Prosthetic dental treatment is the general name for treatments that aim to restore the function and appearance of missing teeth or teeth with loss of tooth structure.
Fixed prostheses
Crowns and bridges are placed on sound tooth tissue or on implants. All-ceramic crowns or veneers may be preferred for front teeth, and zirconia-based restorations in areas where forces are high.
All-ceramic crowns
These are made from ceramic materials whose translucency is close to that of tooth enamel. They are an option where the colour, shape or size of a tooth needs to be changed.
Veneers (porcelain laminates)
These are thin ceramic restorations applied after removing a small amount of tissue from the front surface of the tooth. Suitability is determined by the condition of the teeth and the bite.
Removable prostheses
Where many teeth are missing, partial or full dentures may be used.
